The proposed Officer Town Centre will be the central hub of this growing suburb, which will create new employment and business opportunities. The addition of the proposed retail precinct and community facilities and services, will all be centrally located to the Park Central and Aspect Estates.
Two large retail sites will host up to 50 retail stores of specialty shops and restaurants, the entire Officer Town Centre will consume over 35 hectares of land. Once complete the new Town Centre will be a major draw card for Melbourne’s south-east corridor providing a diverse range of business and entertainment opportunities. It has been estimated by Places Victoria, the governing body who responsible for the development of the town centre, the works occurring over the next five years will inject $350 million into the local economy and will create nearly 6000 employment opportunities in many industries.
A new Civic Centre for the Shire of Cardinia is underway and is the first key building within the town centre; this will be complimented by a new main street and plaza.
Officer is located around 49km south-east of the Melbourne CBD. Within the Cardinia Shire, – which is one of the fastest growing regions of metropolitan Melbourne. Officer - albeit still retaining some rural character – is considered an urban growth area within Cardinia Shire, along with Beaconsfield and Pakenham.
Officer already boasts an excellent train service; all within close proximity to the newly proposed town centre, the bus and taxi services is also at immediate disposal. It is situated on the Pakenham line, and there is also a V/Line service passing through Cardinia Shire. In addition to the 11 local bus routes and a taxi service that operates through Pakenham, Officer and Koo Wee Rup.
The three schools which are currently operational are, Officer Primary School, Maranatha Christian School (Officer Campus) and Berwick Grammar School. Also within an easy commute are Monash University and Chisholm TAFE.
This suburb is named after the Officer family, who were early settlers in the area. In 1870 a timber industry was established, the timber was being transported from this area via railways sidings, this was originally named Officer’s Wood Siding. Over time this was shortened to Officer’s , and then Officer.
A great range of lots are currently available at the Aspect estate and the Park Central estate both located close to the proposed New Town Centre. Both estates cater to a wide variety of house sizes and budgets.
