Historians have been able to record the existence of chairs as far back as 3600 BC. The seat was very low to the ground at approx 25cm and made of cloth or leather with carved wood. For many centuries and in many cultures it was an article of dignity and state rather than an article of everyday use. It was not until the 16th century that chairs became common everywhere and for a vast majority of the world’s population.
Today the chair can used to make a statement in any room. Ranging from the stylish to the crazy, I have a few images for you to decide for yourself. Some of the most modern designs are more a piece of art than a simple chair.
